The phrase “First-Generation College Student” means different things to different people. Here in the Student Life Center for Belonging and Social Change, our description includes students whose parents or other caregivers did not complete a four-year degree. (Even if your siblings went to college!)
No matter where you are in your college journey, you don’t have to go it alone! The CBSC offers this First-Gen Empowerment Series, which is a series of weekly workshops designed to help first-generation college students get familiar with college in general and Ohio State specifically, connect to university resources, find community, and develop strategies to thrive here at Ohio State and beyond!
Our meeting on 10/26/23 will be held virtually! Join us on Zoom.
To see this week's topic, check out our page for First-Generation College Students.
The First-Gen Empowerment Series workshops are open, drop-in workshops. While created with first-generation college students in mind, many students can benefit from these workshops, and any student is more than welcome to attend. Join us for all our workshops, or just a few, it’s up to you!
If you require an accommodation such as live captioning or interpretation to participate in this event, please contact Ari Grubaugh at grubaugh.20@osu.edu or 614-688-8449. Requests made one week in advance of the event will generally allow us to provide seamless access, but the university will make every effort to meet requests made after this date.
Event may include group activities, handshakes, and/or require attendee interaction.
