Technical Tuesdays is a professional development workshop series focusing on the following core competencies: career development, communication, ethics, leadership and management, personal development, responsible conduct of research, and teaching.
When it comes to research and scholarship, there are key understandings and expectations that are commonly shared among scholars across disciplines but that may be unspoken. Due to their academic experience and disciplinary knowledge, faculty may have expectations related to student performance on academic assignments, especially research assignments, that they may not explicitly address with students. Recognizing and addressing these tacit expectations may create a more equitable learning environment for all students. This workshop will help participants identify some of the “hidden” expectations related to research and scholarship that may impact them, both as graduate and professional students, and as future faculty members and scholars.
Presenter: Jane Hammons, Teaching and Learning Engagement Librarian, University Libraries
