The mission of the Ohio Union Activities Board as the student programming organization at The Ohio State University is to provide diverse programs and events that are educational, entertaining, and thought provoking for the students of the Columbus campus. OUAB strives to create a fun, accessible, and challenging environment for its members that empower each member to change and shape the lives of fellow students while strengthening their own leadership skills and fostering personal growth.
The Ohio Union Activities Board membership is composed of general members and the executive board.
To remain a member of OUAB, you must gain all 6 “membership points” for completing all of the following tasks each semester:
•Volunteer for at least one event programmed by your committee.
•Volunteer for one event programmed by another committee;
•Volunteer for at least one Flicks for Free or Grad/Prof event.
•Complete one marketing task as agreed upon by Advisor(s) and Marketing Directors.
•Miss no more than three meetings. A meeting constitutes both the general member meeting and your committee breakout. Tardiness (by more than 5 minutes) to the general member meeting may result in a counted absence.
•Attend at least one OUAB social event, task force meeting, or workshop.
In order to remain a member of OUAB, volunteers must also be an active committee member and adhere to agreed upon standards as set by the Committee Director and Advisor(s).
Failure to meet the required six points will result in potential removal from the organization.
There are 13 executive board member positions: President, Vice President, Director of Operations, 2 Co-Directors of Marketing, Director of Collaborative Events, Director of Comedy, Director of Concerts, Director of Graduate and Professional Programs, Director of Humanities, Director of Lectures, Director of Special Events, Director of Visual and Fine Arts. These students are responsible for leading each program from conception to reality. The general members volunteer and even take roles as project leaders, however the executive board members are ultimately responsible for a successful event. Executive board members also have requirements:
- Hold four office hours each week in the OUAB office
- Attend two events programmed by other committees
- Attend all executive board meetings
- Attend all general member meetings
Executive board members are selected during Spring Semester through an application process. More information will be available on the website during Fall Semester.
